Ich liebi dich. Iniibig kita. Wo ai ni.🎶🎵

We used to call them little trees and we had fun playing pretend as hungry Giants who munched on these miniature greens. 😋.

Broccoli is nutrients-rich--  vitamins C & K are just tip of the vits-berg. I'm definitely glad *everyone* in my family loves this even now.

Perfectly simmered broccs taste wonderful with just salt & pepper.😋 But another spin was to indulge in it with bechamel sauce.

Here was one Valentine's Day lunch at home, with broccoli the star ✳️ for this meal.

Never fails, always a hit in the fam.🎯

🥦 Tools

  • Pot a bit deep for simmering & to make the sauce.
  • Ladle.
  • Strainer.
  • Bowl for quick iced water soak.

🥦 Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Water for simmering.
  • Salt & pepper, dash to taste.
  • Cold water & ice cubes.
  • Knob of butter.
  • Garlic, 2 cloves minced.
  • Fresh milk, 3 tbsp.
  • 1.5 can of cream.
  • Veggie broth, 1/2 cup.

🥦 Steps

Prep the broccoli

  1. Simmer fresh or frozen broccs in pot of boiling water til cooked. About 5 minutes. (It should turn vibrant green once cooked through.)
  2. Once cooked, strain, then soak in bowl of ice cold water with ice for 2 minutes.
  3. Strain cooled broccs and set aside.
Prep the Sauce
  1. Use the same pot where brocc was simmered (set aside the water).
  2. Saute butter, add garlic.
  3. Add 1/4 tsp salt to sweat the garlic for a minute while keeping on stirring.
  4. Add flour 2 tbsp. Mix well.
  5. Add milk, stir well.
  6. Add cream, keep stirring.
  7. Add broth, keep stirring.
  8. Add water where brocc was simmered if too dry.
  9. Season to taste. (salt, pepper, chili flakes, etc.)

Serve broccs on plate & slather with the white sauce.

Enjoy!

💡Tips

Leave some 🥦 sans crema for my Z, who likes it au naturel.

Japanese potato salad, onegaishimasu!!!

Refreshing Crunch in every bite Nice touch of creamy from the potatoes and dressing Wonderful colors BEST of ALL: HEALTHY 🥗  Ingredients  3 potatoes, boiled &  roughly  mashed  1/2 cup of picnic ham, or 1/2 can of Spam, diced and fried. 1 cucumber, sliced 1 carrot, julienne 1/2 cup sweet corn,  1/2 cup picnic ham, diced &fried Japanese mayonnaise (*or any mayo) vinegar 1 boiled egg (optional) Salt and pepper to taste. 🥗  Steps Once the potatoes and ham are done, boiled-mashed, fried, respectively. mix altogether in a big bowl. Serve warm immediately, or it can also be served after being chilled for an hour (if in a rush 30 mins in the chiller will do.) The kids preferred without onions, so I always exclude it. Pair with some nicely fried food, like Japanese sausages, or chicken nuggets; world peace over dinner is hugely important. 💡 Inspired by: Ochikeron & Just One Cookbook
